Staff Profile
Melissa Imboden, Marketing Coordinator
Melissa joined thedatabank in 2006 as a Marketing Intern, and eventually became the full-time Marketing Coordinator. Her roles at thedatabank include editor of the monthly e-newsletter, training facilitator, and manager of the company website. Although she doesn’t have an extensive background in fundraising (yet), she wanted to share her experience from the other side: as a donor.
“There is no denying that social networks are an effective way to reach people my age. I pay close attention to the causes that my friends feel passionate enough about to share online. Whether it's a Polar Bear Plunge to fight cancer, or a fundraising appeal to save the Florida Everglades, I almost always click the link to learn more, because it's coming from someone that I care about and respect.
How can this information help you? thedatabank has two ways. The first is a Social Network Append that can tell you which of your supporters are on various social networking sites and more importantly, which supporters are well-connected. Ask those people to promote your cause to their friends online. If their friends are anything like me, they're likely to click through! The second reason why this information is relevant, is that thedatabank will be launching a widget this spring that allows your supporters to put a badge on their social network profile(s) that drives traffic to your donation page. Your organization brings in more money and the supporter gets credit for helping spread the word. It's a win-win. Look for more information on this widget next month.”

Find out what I really look like
"You cut your hair!" This is how one of my clients recently greeted me. The funny thing is, she had never seen me before - except in the somewhat dated photo that appears every month in this newsletter.
This spring, many of our clients and friends will have a chance to see folks from thedatabank in person, and meet other Databank users. Here are some of the events:
- March 24, Minnesota Technology and Communications Conference
- April 7, Databank User Lunch and private meetings in Atlanta
- April 8-10, NTEN conference in Atlanta
- April 14, Databank User Lunch and private meetings in Nashville
- April 15-18, LCV state capacity building conference in Nashville
- May 7th, Databank User Conference in Minneapolis
There's nothing like a face-to-face meeting to answer your questions, hear your ideas, and give you individual attention to help you make the most of your investment in the Databank. And so far our clients have loved meeting other Databank users in their own community, and exchanging ideas with them.If you're trying to decide on a software package, an in-person meeting is a great opportunity to get an in depth demonstration, or find out what kind of people you will be dealing with at your software vendor.
Will you be just a number, or a valued customer? And most importantly, what does your account manager LOOK like? Does she have long hair or short? Devil horns? A long blue tail?
P.S. If appearances matter to you - make sure to check out our latest user interface enhancements, to be released on March 14th.
